Eurofins is set to announce today that it will establish a global software centre in Dublin that will create 150 jobs, expanding the life sciences company’s already significant presence here.

The Luxembourg-headquartered entity already operates laboratories in Dublin, Waterford and Cork with 775 staff working here in the field of clinical diagnostics, biopharma, agro science and food and beverage testing.

“We’re looking to build on our global team of 1,500 software developers with the addition of a 150-strong team here in Dublin, who will help us to make a difference to the way we build, deliver and use software across the globe.

“Ireland is well renowned for its highly skilled technology workforce,” Claudius Masuch, director of IT solutions engineering at Eurofins, said.

The new Dublin offices will be in Sandyford, and the addition of the jobs comes amid a surge in employment in Ireland, which has created skills shortages in some areas.

Recent data shows the number of people in work in the State has hit record levels and some employers have started to say that they have difficulties recruiting new staff.

The unemployment rate had fallen to 5.3pc by December from over 6pc a year ago and the economy is close to full employment, economists say.

Existing strong levels of foreign direct investment into Ireland have been bolstered by Brexit, which has lured UK-based financial services companies into the capital, putting upward pressure on commercial property prices and salaries in fields that were already seeing high demand from employers.

The expansion of firms like Eurofins may help the State offset some of its heavy dependence on US multinationals for jobs, investment and taxes.

Eurofins, which has 45,000 staff worldwide, said it had already started recruiting for the Dublin posts.
